What is a shaman?
Shamans gain knowledge and the power to heal by entering into the spiritual world or dimension (via a Journey meditation). Most shamans have dreams or visions that convey certain messages. The shaman may have or acquire many spirit guides, who often guide and direct the shaman in his/her travels in the spirit world. These spirit guides are always present within the shaman, although others encounter them only when the shaman is in a trance. The spirit guide energizes the shaman, enabling him/her to enter the spiritual dimension. The shaman heals within the spiritual dimension by returning 'lost' parts of the human soul from wherever they have gone. The shaman also cleanses excess negative energies, which confuse or pollute the soul.

So much happened before Dorothy dropped in. WICKED, the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle.  Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another girl, born with emerald-green skin-smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”  With a thrilling score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good,” WICKED has been hailed by The New York Times as “the defining musical of the decade.” Time Magazine cheers, “if every musical had the brain, the heart, and the courage of WICKED, Broadway really would be a magical place.” RBTL’s Auditorium Theatre is that magical place. From the first electrifying note to the final breathtaking moment, WICKED-the untold true story of the Witches of Oz-transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story. It will send your spirits soaring to heights you’ll never forget.

George Eastman Museum presents A Matter of Memory
10/22/2016 2:00:00 PM UTC - 1/29/2017 10:00:00 PM UTC
Posted By: George Eastman Museum
With the convenience and ubiquity of computers and smartphones, the majority of photographic images are being recorded digitally rather than on film. As this transformation has broadened access to photographic images-both in making and in viewing-in many contexts it has also obviated the need for photographic prints. Snapshooters, photojournalists, and commercial photographers rarely produce material objects as the final step in their process. As a consequence, photographs in the form of image-bearing sheets of paper are scarce outside of the art world. Because personal and collective memories are so inextricably intertwined with photographs-the result of the medium’s progressive saturation of everyday life for the past century and a half-this revolutionary change in the production and dissemination of photographic images is altering society’s relationship to memory. In the midst of this change, many contemporary photographers are making work that addresses, either directly or obliquely, the potential consequences of the medium’s metamorphosis. Some artists dig deep into photographic materials as though searching for the locus of memory, while others incorporate found snapshots into their work as virtual talismans of recollection. Both kinds of work highlight the presence of the photographic object and function as self-conscious meditations on photography’s ongoing reorganization of our mental and physical landscape. A Matter of Memory: Photography as Object in the Digital Age is generously sponsored by Deborah Ronnen and Sherman Levey.

As the Negros of Tulsa and other Oklahoma cities fought to pursue their God-given rights and the federal constitution’s guarantee of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”, they encounter those who sought to maintain the way America operated, thus denying them emancipation from an established system that long ago excluded them.
After the Civil War, several all-black townships were established in the United States in Indian and Oklahoma Territories. One of those townships, Greenwood, was created in 1906 by one of Tulsa’s earliest pioneers, O.W. Gurley, and other black entrepreneurs.
Emancipation Denied is a story of the aspirations, success and struggles of the Greenwood community in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the early 1900s.  It is a story of hope, strength, and diligence in the face of opposition and oppression. The Greenwood community was coined “Black Wall Street” by Booker T. Washington because of its economic success and entrepreneurial opportunities.  In this world premiere, original play by local playwright Deborah Solomon, CEO of Beehive Business Enterprise, LLC, viewers are immersed into the lives of those who were influential in the development of one of America’s most wealthy and striving Negro towns.  As residents of Greenwood pooled their resources to establish an economic powerhouse in Greenwood, which housed over 600 businesses, resentful, unprogressive whites sought to destroy the black promise land.
This captivating script will be brought to life on stage by the extraordinary actors and actresses of The North Star Players under the direction of renowned director David Shakes.

LGBTQ Artists from the Gerald Mead Collection

Members of the LGBTQ community have a long and distinguished history of contributions to all disciplines of the creative arts. Their collective talents have been an integral part of the cultural life of society. This exhibition, which focuses on the visual arts, highlights and celebrates that legacy as evidenced by the achievements of artists of this region and reinforces the mission of the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley – “a champion for LGBTQ life and culture.”

On view in Gallery Q is a survey exhibition consisting of over 35 artworks in all media by LGBTQ Western New York artists selected from the extensive art collection of Gerald Mead from Buffalo, NY. Historically, the artworks range from an early 20 th century hand colored print by Annie Crawford, who exhibited her work in the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo in 1901, to a drawing that Adam Weekley, an art professor at Villa Maria College in Buffalo, created in 2015.

Other artists in the exhibition include Edward Bisone, Lawrence Brose, Craig Centrie, Amy Greenan, Carlos Gutierrez-Solana, Mickey Harmon, Scott McCarney, Dana McKnight, Frank Moore, Tommy Nguyen, Clara Sipprell, Joe Radoccia, Paul Rybarczyk, Donald Siuta, Dana Tyrrell, Marcus Wise and Joe Ziolkowski among others.

Gerald Mead is an award winning artist, educator, arts writer and independent curator who is a leading authority on Western New York art and serves on the boards of several arts organizations in Buffalo. Since 1987, he has assembled a collection of over 1,000 artworks by artists associated with this region by birth or residency. Thematic exhibitions from the Gerald Mead Collection have been presented at numerous college galleries and other public venues, most recently at SUNY Fredonia and the Springville Center for the Arts. He has also lent works from his collection for major exhibitions at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Burchfield Penney Art Center, Castellani Art Museum, University at Buffalo Art Galleries, Buffalo Arts Studio, CEPA and Hallwalls and frequently lectures on art and collecting.

Vogue cheers, "it’s a must-see you’ll remember for years to come!” Directed by visionary Tony winner Diane Paulus, FINDING NEVERLAND tells the incredible story behind one of the world's most beloved characters: Peter Pan.  Playwright J.M. Barrie struggles to find inspiration until he meets four young brothers and their beautiful widowed mother. Spellbound by the boys’ enchanting make-believe adventures, he sets out to write a play that will astound London theatergoers.  With a little bit of pixie dust and a lot of faith, Barrie takes this monumental leap, leaving his old world behind for Neverland where nothing is impossible and the wonder of childhood lasts forever. The magic of Barrie’s classic tale springs spectacularly to life in this heartwarming theatrical event. FINDING NEVERLAND is “far and away the best musical of the year!” (NPR).

Elements of the ROC

Posted By: Image City Photography Gallery
Elements of the ROC - Oct. 4 - Oct. 30, 2016 We are open Tues. - Sat. 12-6 pm and Sunday 12-4 pm.

Inspired by shape, line, form, and texture Don decided to depict familiar elements of Rochester in black and white.  In the first of four sections, these elements are exterior images. The second section honors the Wall Therapy movement in Rochester. One of his favorite subjects to photograph is interior locations familiar to many and often in great detail. Finally, images of the Public Market highlight the people of the City of Rochester that make this his home. Many of his images have significant detail. Hopefully rendering them in B&W removes the conflict that color sometimes introduces.

Other artists include Laurence Fischer in the East Gallery, Dick Beery, Cynthia Fay, Roslyn Rose, Lou Ryen, George Wallace, and Award-Winning Photographs by Camera Rochester Photographers.

Intro to Gong Sound Healing
Thursday, October 12th @ 7:45pm
Special Intro. Price: $7pp

Interested in Gong Sound Healing but not quite sure what it is? Join Vesna Sanders, CYT & Gong Practitioner on October 12th and come try the class out at a discounted price at $7pp.

A gong is one of the oldest therapeutic instruments and one of the most soothing holistic treatments. It’s healing vibration will take every participant on an incredible personal inner journey. During a gong bath you lie on the floor for about 45min and simply get “massaged” by the transformational sound of the gong. Gongs are energy generators, able to affect an individual on a cellular level, allowing deep healing to take place. Nothing can c lear your mind like a gong does! Gongs release tension in the physical body, and they also work deeply on the mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.

A gong bath is extremely relaxing, soothing and harmonizing. Each class starts with a few minutes of gentle stretching; for the next 45min participants simply lie on the floor and get bathed by the vibration of the gong.

* Click on the drop down menu box for this special 10/12 Intro Class.
* Reserve your spot today! Space is limited to 20.
*All props are provided at the studio but feel free to bring your own if you wish - especially if you need extra cushioning.

Healing with Angels of the Energy Field
10/9/2016 2:00:00 PM UTC - 10/9/2016 9:00:00 PM UTC
Posted By: Spirit & Crystal Connections
Description: We developed our “Healing Angels” class to support two groups of students: First, it is perfect for students who do not have any Integrated Energy Therapy® Training but who love angels and who would like to meet and work with the nine special angels of healing (Ariel, Raphael, Gabriel, Celestina, Faith, Cassiel, Daniel, Sarah, and Michael). Second, it is also ideal for IET students who want to learn to call upon the Healing Angels and add a special spiritual dimension to their sessions. You will learn the special healing gift that each angel brings and a special prayer of invitation to call upon the angel. Everyone from angel novice to expe rt can benefit from this class. Only IET Master-Instructors are authorized to teach this class.

Class Methodology: This class is based on a powerful four step process that enables you to energetically connect with the Healing Angels and develop your personal relationship with each of them. In this class you will be led by your IET Master-Instructor through this four-step process to systematically focus on each of the Healing Angels. The group energy created in this class will enable you to connect much more powerfully with the Healing Angels than you can do alone. Even “psychic turnips” (those students who cannot feel, see, taste, smell, or sense energy in any way) often have powerful energetic awareness of the Healing Angels in this class.

Class Materials: you will receive a fully illustrated 14 page Healing Angels Of The Energy Field Class Workbook and an official Healing Angels Of The Energy Field Certificate. The workbook contains an image of each Healing Angel, a description of how each Healing Angel can help you in your self-healing spiritual journey, a special prayer of invitation for each Healing Angel, and a space for you to write about the ways each Healing Angel can help you as well as a space to write about your perception of each Healing Angel.

First Friday Opening Reception for Artist, AJ Dungan
Friday, October 7, 2016
6:00pm - 9:00pm

Please join us during First Friday Citywide Gallery Night for an evening filled with art, discussions and lite refreshments. Artist, AJ Dungan will be in attendance to elaborate on his work and the creative process. This event is free and open to the public.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
To understand my art, you must question how and why it requests your participation. The images I create, though they may have an air of incompletion, should take your hand, leading your mind to its next destination. Much like a puzzle, you as the viewer are invited to navigate through the fractured and partial forms, completing a story that is  unique to you. These compositions are intended to create a feeling of motion within a momentary event. Their purpose is rooted in the uncertainty that innately exists within our romantic relationships, feelings of love and sensuality. As you view my work, I invite you to explore and play with the vast array of shifting planes and changing perspectives that it embodies. Here, I challenge you to join me in the act of re-composition and encourage you to discover something different each time you view it.

AJ (TONY) DUNGAN is represented by the OXFORD GALLERY. For sales inquiries please contact JIM HALL at 585-271-5885 or e-mail info@oxfordgallery.com.

AUTUMN EQUINOX: QIGONG FOR THE LUNGS
9/21/2016 9:30:00 PM UTC - 9/21/2016 10:30:00 PM UTC
Posted By: Nu Movement
This is the perfect time of year to work on strengthening and balancing our lung qi, as well as to release negative emotions that are associated with the lungs which often tend to arise during Autumn. As the weather gets cooler and the humidity of summer leaves, the seasonal energy shifts to the element of metal, which corresponds to the energy of the lungs. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the lungs are impacted by the negative emotions of sadness and grief. They are the bellows which move qi throughout the body and they govern the energy of our protective energy field called the Wei Qi field, which corresponds to our innate immune system, and works to keep pathogens at bay. Each organ has both positive and negative traits and emotions associated with it and the positive traits of the lungs are courage and integrity. Qigong can help us to develop those positive traits over time. Each organ is also represented by a color and an animal. In the case of the lungs, the color is white and the animal is a white tiger. Symptoms of lung energy imbalances include obvious lung issues like asthma, coughs, bronchial issues, sinus problems, and allergies, but also constipation (the lungs are partners with the large intestines), and skin problems like dry skin and eczema, since the lungs influence our skin's protective mechanisms.  Please click  HERE to pre-register for this special seasonal class / space is limited to 15

"Reflexology is based on the theory that every organ, gland and system of the body has a corresponding reflex point in the feet and hands. By manipulating those reflex points with applied pressure, the body can come back into balance (homeostasis) and begin to heal itself. "
Michelle - "Several years ago, I discovered reflexology a s a new life path! Having been in the 'daily grind' of the accounting field for almost two decades, reflexology helped me reduce stress; balance my body, mind and soul; and fed my desire to continue learning. Today, I share that with others.

I studied with Lynn Gray Reflexology, NBCR, ACARET, completing more than 200 hours of classroom & clinical hours to receive my certification in 2011. Reflexology certification includes study of anatomy & physiology, business acumen, ethics and standards in our field, as well as 90+ hours of hands on client work. I am also trained in Face Reflexology. I continued my clinical studies and achieved National Board Certified Registrant from the American Reflexology Certification Board. "

Saturday, September 10, 2016
7:00pm 9:00pm
Cost: $25

Join us for this workshop as we take you back to those dreams and uncover who you need to be to bring them to life. We will dive in and get you back on track to start living more authentically. Then we will each create our own bracelet to wear as a daily reminder of who we want to be, who we NEED to be, to create the life we dreamed of.

The Workshop:

We will circle up and take a relaxed approach to the discussion portion of this workshop. Enjoy lite refreshments and wine as we discuss..well, LIFE! It's so easy to get caught up in day to day life and then before you know it, days, weeks, months have gone by and you feel like you are stuck in the same pla ce. As time goes by, you lose a little bit more of who you are and who you dreamed you could be. You have let society's "shoulds" get in the way of all your "coulds" you believed were possible. We will discuss how to get excited about YOU again!

The Bracelet:

After the discussion portion of this workshop, we will all be making our own leather and sterling silver stamped bracelet for you to keep. Each participant will select a word or affirmation that speaks to their own personal goal or mantra. This will serve as a daily reminder that you are a "warrior", or that you seek "balance" in your life...you decide!

OUR $5 FITNESS FRIDAY CLASS FOR AUGUST 26TH:   SUN & MOON VINYASA FLOW with Instructor Mary Topian! Sun and Moon Vinyasa  Flow is all about balance. Like yin and yang, the sun and moon signify the active body and mind in harmony with the passive state of restfulness that must exist in both. Vinyasa is all about continuous movement - and most importantly, matching that movement with breathing. Practicing Vinyasa regularly will help match each movement with a breath in - or out. The focus is on movement and grace, for many it ends up feeling something like dancing. This class will allow for an equal amount of time to slow down the flow and ease into a restful savasana. Reiki Level 1 Class!

Level 1 is a practitioner's initiation into Reiki and is open to anyone. The focus during Level 1 is on opening the energy channels on a physical level, allowing the practitioner to connect to the universal life force energy, which flows from the cosmos through the crown of the head and down to the heart and hands.

Many Reiki Masters emphasize self-Reiki as the goal of the Level 1 designation, encouraging students to focus on practicing Reiki on themselves, thereby working through their own obstacles. You will receive a Level 1 attunement and may experience physical symptoms of energy in your palms after the first attunement - including tingling, coolness or heat. This Level 1 course includes an overview of the history of Reiki, hand placements and group practice.

Om Chanting: FREE Class ॐ
Sunday, August 7, 2016
3:00pm - 4:15pm

It is time for another OM chanting circle! ॐ Join us at Nu Movement where we will harmoniously chant the primordial and healing sound OM together in a group for about 45 mins!

OM Chanting is an ancient group healing technique that uses the universal vibration of OM to provide transformation and healing support to all people and the planet. OM is the primordial vibration from which all the other vibrations or sounds come, and thus the whole creation. It has a very powerful harmonizing, balancing and healing potential.

The OM chanting technique uses OM in a specific way which is amplified and strengthened by the blessing of the Masters. It is a  very energizing practice and at the same time very healing, especially on the emotional level. The powerful vibration of the mantra OM helps us reconnect with our true essence and create balance between us at the external world. As you sit in the OM chanting circle you can feel lifetimes of fear begin to dissipate. As fear dissipates, you get closer to who you really are - divine Love.

When you chant OM in a circle you don't do it just for yourself but for other people as well. The joy of serving others is something that the world really needs right now, because the world needs to be changed and filled with more positivity. That's exactly what OM chanting does: it purifies your own negativity and the collective negativity of our species!

By lending your voice to this group OM Chanting, you will add your contribution to uplifting everyone that attends. The vibration of OM is also very healing to the physical location of the area where OM Chanting is practiced and it benefits Mother Earth as well.

Come and experience the power of OM and feel the vibration for yourself! ॐ
Thai Bodywork: Restore & Renew

T hai Bodywork gives the benefits of massage, yoga, and energy work in one nurturing dance. Join LauraLouu in this ancient healing art form practiced in Thailand.

Traditionally given on a floor mat with clients fully clothed, Thai bodywork is a whole-body treatment. It combines passive stretching and movement of joints with several touch techniques and work along energy meridians (called sen in Thai). The whole treatment is a graceful, nurturing, interactive dance that is sensitive to the condition of each person. The effect of Thai Massage is greater flexibility, flow of energy, deep relaxation, and feeling of well being.

The art of Thai bodywork achieves a deep therapeutic effect without harsh physical force through efficient use of movement, conscious touch, breathing and rhythm. Since it is given on a floor mat with the client fully clothed, practitioners can use their whole body in leverage and interactive work as they move and rock the client into various positions, apply rhythmic touch as well as some cross-fiber stroking of muscle and tendons. The treatment can be vigorous or gentle depending on the need or preference of the client. Always respectful and caring, it is adjustable to suit most clients, young or not-so-young, athlete or spectator.

You do not have to already be flexible to get and enjoy Thai Bodywork. And it does not have to hurt.

A complete Thai Massage treats the whole body in four positions: supine, side-lying, prone and sitting. The process itself is meditative for both client and practitioner and takes between 1½ to 2 hours. Clients often report feeling "longer," "expanded," "looser," "deeply relaxed," "refreshed" and more aware of their body. It can have therapeutic benefit for many conditions, especially tight hamstrings and general stiffness, muscular aches in low back, hips, and shoulders, as well as mild rheumatoid arthritis. The deep relaxation and energy work impart a long-lasting afterglow of well-being. A great aid in both recovering and maintaining good health!

Relax into the blissful practice of restorative yoga ~ where your body is fully supported with props allowing your muscles to release tension, your mind to release stress and your spirit to open to whatever life brings. Linking restorative yoga postures with the breath, relaxation exercises and yoga assists to bring awareness to the mind, body and spirit.  Restorative Yoga is a therapeutic style of Iyengar Yoga which utilizes props to make it easier for the body to get into certain poses, and thus, surrender to the pose. This 90 minute class has tremendous health benefits and will leave you feeling renewed, relaxed and restored. To make it extra pampering – hand massages, lavender essential oil diffused in the air and warm organic tea will be offered to all during class. Class will end with a progressive-muscle relaxation exercise and an extended Shavasana. A treat for the mind, body & soul. You deserve it. Whether it's to pamper yourself holistically, add a little Yin to your Yang Yoga Practice or heal & restore your body - this class is beneficial to all levels. Class is limited to 10 spaces, reserve your space today. “As the props relieve your muscles and bones of their roles of support and action, your nervous system sends and receives fewer messages and becomes quieter. Layers of tension melt away as you learn to be present to what is happening in the body and mind in each moment.”  ~Judith Lasater

July's Goddess Circle: Dream Catcher Creations
Friday, July 15th 6-8pm | $12 pp
{Pre-registration is required due to materials}

Please join Joanna McNelis, RYT every month and embrace the healing guidance and feminine energy of a Goddess Circle. The intention of a Goddess Circle is to celebrate our strengths, beauty, sisterhood and unique gifts. This will be an informal place for women to gather, celebrate being a woman, connect as sisters, bond, share, and learn from each other every month.

Move into your own possibility and positivity by halting negativity in this special dream catcher Goddess Circle. Jennifer Morgan, RYT will be joining us to make our own Dream Catchers. Jennifer Morgan is a Certified Crystal Healer, Reiki Practitioner, and IET Practitioner with special interest in Native American Culture.

"The traditional dream catcher was intended to protect the sleeping individual from negative dreams, while letting positive dreams through. The positive dreams would slip through the hole in the center of the dream catcher, and glide down the feathers to the sleeping person below. The negative dreams would get caught up in the web, and expire when the first rays of the sun struck them."

From the circular shape of the dream catcher, to the beads and feathers, this Native American tradition is filled with symbolism. Jenn will teach us about dream catchers and all of the meanings behind them. She will also guide us through making our own Dream Catchers.

Cost: $12 - includes materials to make your own Dream Catcher to take home. Please bring any additional items such as beads or feathers you wish to include in your catcher. Crystals will be for sale for incorporating in dream catchers. ***Pre-registration is required due to materials***

Circle will include sage smudging and opening lighting of the candles. And end with choosing a Goddess Oracle card to help guide us through out the month and a sealing poem.

Class description:   • I’ll provide a short history of my experience with the angels and how I developed my psychic gifts. • Describe how people see, hear, and receive messages from angels. • Lead automatic hand writing (channeling angels through writing exercise). • Answer questions • Enjoy the option to participate in some Restorative Yoga with guest Instructor Joanna McNelis, RYT, while you each receive a short, individual angel reading in a separate, private room. *see description below.   Angel Readings: Sarah has come to know that angels are all around us, sending protection and guidance. Before and during a session, Sarah will psychically connect with the angels, asking for a message that will assist the client in answering questions about the past, present and future. Sarah is able to connect with her clients’ deceased loved ones as well.   Meet your Instructor: Sarah Itkin, LCSW, Intuitive Healer   "SARAH ITKIN IS AN INTUITIVE, AN EMPATH, A REIKI PRACTITIONER, A THERAPIST, AND A MEDIUM, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, A HEALER. SHE USES HER GIFTS TO GUIDE OTHERS IN HEALING THEIR LIVES AND REACHING THEIR HIGHEST POTENTIAL."   Since childhood Sarah has been gifted with psychic abilities. Vivid, psychic dreams gave way to dreams of being alive in other times in history. As she reached adulthood, she began to experience prophetic dreams, the ability to see into the future and unknown situations, and the ability to channel angelic messages.   The desire to help humanity has always been a guiding force in Sarah’s life. After earning her master’s degree in 2006, she established a practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a therapist, focusing on children and families. Throughout her career, she has relied on her intuitive abilities, empathetically sharing her clients’ emotions.   In 2014, Sarah began to mentor with psychic development teacher Diane Ronner to hone her gifts as a seer and intuitive. In 2015, she combined her psychic gifts with her training as a therapist to provide a more profound level of healing. In 2016, she added Reiki to her offerings.

OM Chanting ॐ
Friday, July 1st from 5pm-6pm
Free of charge

"Just Love - the essence of everything."

OM is the primordial sound pervading the whole Universe. Every OM chanting circle purifies us, the people around us, a large area around the circle, and the Mother Earth. It connects us with our true essence, which is pure Love. When we feel that connection, there is no room left for negative emotions, bad feelings or lack of direction. We all feel layers and layers of stuff that we carry around which prevent us to feel free, joyous and fulfilled. OM chanting takes this layers away from you! You will find that self-healing occurs through the practice - at the emotional, mental and physical level.

OM chanting  can also be used for healing or sending positivity to a person you love or a situation that you want to resolve. OM chanting is a group practice and it can also be seen as our selfless service (seva) for our communities and the word.

In this pre-holiday OM chanting circle we'll focus on transforming our negativity into pure Love, sending Love and positivity to the whole planet, which in the light of all the recent tragedies needs plenty energetic support and healing.

We'll be harmoniously chanting the powerful mantra OM for 45min. All props for sitting are available at the studio (including chairs if sitting on the floor is not a good option for you).
